Each day brings us new opportunities and teaches us new lessons. Below are some of the golden rules of online communication that I’ve picked up while developing this site.
Always be Growing
Benchmark yourself against new role models. Inspire yourself with new goals and higher standards of conduct by following established leaders and identifying rising stars in your area of interest. I like to keep up with people by tracking their news feeds and to discover new interests by reading and commenting on communities like Social Median.
Recognize the inevitability of personal growth. Your opinions today are more informed than those of yesterday. Recognize that other community members are continually growing and treat them with openness and respect.
Always be Sharing
Give more than you receive. Unless you’re trying to be first to market with a new product there is little benefit to keeping your experience in your head. By sharing your successes and lessons learned with others you will grow and your relationships with others will strengthen.
Keep things fresh. Take time to revisit old relationships and get in touch with people from your past. Take time to revisit old content you’ve published and update it to include new developments and your latest thoughts.
Invite collaboration. Make yourself available to work with other community members by participating in discussions, answering questions and resolving issues. I try to be as available as possibleby posting contact links in the sidebar and by going out and joining conversations with people around the web.
