Spotlight on London’s Wiki Wednesday - Attitudes Towards Sharepoint

Simon Carswell at Enterprising Knowledge posted this morning about London’s latest Wiki Wednesday. The focus of the meeting was “Microsoft SharePoint as social media platform - Any chance to fight your IT department when they suggest it?” This is a pretty funny theme to me - my wiki advocacy at work is more than likely going to be heading down the Sharepoint path simply because we’ve already got the licenses and MS server infrastructure in place. Here’sSimon’s take on the session:

I must suspend my suspicion that this is all a typical Microsoft lock-in strategy, along the lines of “nobody ever got fired for choosing IBM, no wait, Microsoft”, thus giving an easy choice to the IT procurement people, then nice employment for their folk, etc. I must also stop thinking that Sharepoint is a mediocre product, since I haven’t touched it for 2 years. I’m looking forward to the TFPL day so I can hear the other side of the story.

It looks like Simon’s headed to a seminar later this month that focuses on Sharepoint implementation case studies. Hopefully we can get some good pro-Sharepoint stories from Simon’s blog in a follow-up post.
