sharepoint is not a wiki. It is semistructured knwoledge collaboration portal,- with a possible plugin for wiki functionality. In general people think the wiki-functionality is too limited for practical use.

Quite right! I was pretty excited about setting up a MediaWiki server for testing at the office but I've mostly abandoned that project because our Sharepoint server has a limited wiki functionality.

I got the impression that MediaWiki's MySQL backend would be a tough sell to our IT department and Sharepoint would be easy to get approved. Now I'm left to figure out how to customize/enhance Sharepoint's wiki to provide more features than it does out of the box.
