Today I’d like to share three great reads I’ve enjoyed this week. Each focuses on a different facet of sharing in the workplace. Each is from an author I respect. -Daniel
The awkward state of community management in the gaming industry
Sanya Weathers – long a pioneering CM at Mythic Entertainment and now a respected freelancer – thinks that the Community Management specialty is already on the decline in the computer gaming industry. This is a pretty interesting read considering how quickly the CM career is growing in the business world. Are Sanya’s observations a glimpse at the future of social media or just more evidence of the dysfunction of gaming?
Social vs. Not Social – in pictures
Kevin Jones is a wellspring of ideas and explanations on social learning. I keep coming back to his blog for his endless supply of arguments to be used in support of social learning. As a self-appointed collaboration champion in my own career, Kevin’s work is a continuous source of inspiration for me. Check out some of the graphics from his post earlier this week:
Tweeting coworkers break out of existing office power dynamics

Knowledge Management consultant John Bordeaux outlines the power of enterprise micro-blogging (discussed regularly on Sharing at Work) for better problem solving and work completion in office environments. Check out some choice comments on interactions before and after team microblogs:
Who knows what contributions were missed, as team members declined to volunteer their knowledge?
If I had micro-blogging for my team back then, I may have posed questions and listened to the “small cloud” rather than calling on the “best and brightest.” In doing so, I may have led an even more successful team as we would have been able to make use of all the voices to address the team’s challenges and opportunities
