I know we all have tons of favorite blogs in this space but I’ve also read a few books that shaped my views on enterprise collaboration.  I imagine most of you have read the first one but perhaps not as many the others.  Here’s my list:

• Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything:  This is a visionary look at the recent history and bright future of collaboration.  Great read, fairly popular already.  The scope is broader than E2.0 but there is still a good bit of carryover.  Worth a read.
• Building a Knowledge-Driven Organization: This 2004 book is a bit of an E2.0 memoir from a retiring CEO with a huge interest in internal collaboration culture, practices, and tools.  It starts in the mid 80s and tracks 20 years of collaboration up through the turn of the century.  It stops short of the latest tools but the concepts are still sound.  Highly recommended!
• Bioteams: High Performance Teams Based on Nature’s Most Successful Designs:  This book was less polished than either of the above books but the concepts were still very interesting.  It helped me think about the potential for ad-hoc work groups that disregard organizational hierarchy and simply come together just long enough to get projects done.  Worth a read!

Ok E2.0 fans, what’s on your bookshelves?

I linked to my reviews of two of the three books – reviews are great but really any suggestions are welcome. A bookshelf is a powerful thing, especially if you keep it at your desk. I was gobsmacked after an E2.0 presentation recently when the man who introduced me closed up the event by riffing on Wikinomics. I hadn’t directly referenced the book at all – it was neat to find someone else who’d gotten something out of the book.

Silicon Valley blogger, marketer, and all-around social media expert Louis Gray continues to flatter me with the opportunity to contribute to his blog, and my latest effort just went up: Weblogs Inc’s iPhone Ads Show Focused Content Delivery.  This observational marketing research style is a departure from the usual fare here at Sharing at Work and it has been fun writing about topics beyond my day to day work environment.

Louis Gray has kindly published another of my articles at his early adopter / tech geek site LouisGray.com this week. This one’s about potential new security applications for mobile phones.

I’m particularly interested in the implications of the just-released Battle.net Authenticator by Blizzard Entertainment – it’s like a consumer-grade RSA authentication token for a notoriously difficult to secure class of user accounts.  We use these RSA tokens at my job for security on days when we need to work remotely.  Since these can cost $100 to replace, it’s neat to see a free program that provides a similar solution.
